The statues are made from jackfruit wood and laterite. By means of these common and rustic material, artist Nguyen Tan Phat has successfully created a breakthrough in his artworks’ aesthetic.
Crafted entirely by hand, each of his works is a one-of-a-kind piece. The first step is to come up with an idea, then to shape with earth and start carving directly on the wood. Waiting until the wood gets completely dried, the process of applying pearl shell, egg shell, copper and colors begins. It will take around 40 days to finish one traditional artwork like this.
